The professors statement further strengthens the resolution of these anxious peoples fight against mobile phone transmitter masts.
In the area surrounding the School at Terbank in Heverlee there is an inapropriate growing number of mobile phone antennas.
In 2003, there were only three, now in 2010 there are nearly one hundred! They are mainly on roofs, but some are also often secretly hidden in churches and other places. Professor of nature and chemistry Victor Moshchalkov is convinced that the radiation given out by these masts is harmful to humans.
On top of one apartment block in Celestijnenlaan there are eight mobile phone antennas and these are sited less than 200 meters from a school. Local residents are also planning to go to court because they fear for the health of their children.
According to the professor there is a solution to this problem in the use of different transmission masts using existing optical fibers. This would result in far fewer antennae and masts, whilst the range and quality of the signal would remain the same. That means less radiation and as a result better for our health
